International Network of national public health institutes Sharing Information, expertise and capabilities in order to Grapple with major Health Threats
The mission of INSIGHT is to enhance the EU member states' preparedness and response programmes to major health threats posed by either emerging diseases or bio-terrorist attacks, through sharing of best practices and definition of common goals on development, production, evaluation and through the use of emergency vaccines based on cost effectiveness of possible intervention scenarios.
Specific objectives
To achieve the development of a European emergency vaccination strategy in order to cope with major public health threats, the following specific objectives have been established:
Setting up a European network of national public health institutes with vaccine development capabilities, to promote sharing information, expertise and capabilities.
Priority setting, to define short term and long term approaches.
Determining requirements on development, production and registration of vaccines and essential products, to promote international collaboration in defined approaches.
Linkages at the EU level with the EU Health Security Programme and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).
Methods
The following methods are used in the INSIGHT project: 1 Making of an inventory; 2 Using interactive dialogues to measure the view of relevant stakeholders; 3 Making use of conferences in order to share information and to start discussions on preferable actions.
