'Vaccination: from Serendipity to Science

On Friday 9 February 2007 the Board of Trustees of the Netherlands Vaccine Institute hosted the symposium 'Vaccination: from Serendipity to Science' in Utrecht, the Netherlands. This symposium covered topics on the interface of science and preventive medicine.

The scientists, politicians, experts and decision makers in public health who were invited, made a travel through the world of vaccination. From three thousand years ago to the future.

The speakers were internationally respected authorities in their fields, like prof. Gerd Sutter (Paul Ehrlich Istitut, about smallpox), the English Professor of Vaccinology and Immunology David Goldblatt, WHO- Coordinator for the Global Polio Eradication Initiative Raymond Bruce Aylward and Scientific Director of the Netherlands Vaccine Institute prof. Ben van der Zeijst.
